The long wait is over. I applied for an Earthwatch Fellowship last January and received notice in May I was in the running to receive an award, but final decisions would not be made until August.
I hate waiting.
It was a relief to finally get word I was picked to participate in the "Fragmented Forest" Research at the Smithsonian Research Facility in Maryland. All the students at school and my fellow teachers began to make plans to incorporate my field experience into their classroom plans and everyone was so excited.
And then reality hit.
I had to make a blog (I have never even seen a blog), learn how to download pictures and video onto my blog (I have a camera with film), and learn to use scientific instruments (what exactly is a dendrometer??).
But I am still so excited.
Everyone tells me blogging is simple. I bought a digital camera that also video tapes (the book with all the directions is longer than a novel), and the science teachers are going to tutor me on the proper way to use scientific instruments.
Let the adventure begin!
